My Daily and Acute Immune Booster
/Colds, Sinus, Flu, Upper Respiratory Infections, Sniffles, Sore Throat… “OH MY!”
Welcome to February! Whether you have children, work in an office, travel, take public transportation, or just are out and about… there is no clear cut way to be exempt from any of these common ailments and illnesses.
Years ago before I started experimenting with natural remedies, you would have found my medicine cabinet filled with:
Purell
NyQuil Day and Night
Ziacom
Advil Cold
Tylenol Cold
Delsym Cough Medicine
Sudafed
These are just to name a few! (I am sure you can relate.) I have become aware that the first symptom that presents itself when I am getting a cold or virus is a scratchy throat… which turns into a sore throat... which then turns into a cough.
After trying all the above over-the-counter remedies that left me feeling blah, tired, foggy and thirsty, I decided to do my own research on an alternative (or shall I say a “whole food”) approach to healing.
Now, I am not discounting the above medicines at all. There is a time and a place for everything. But, we need to realize that what they are really doing is just putting a BANDAID on our symptoms, not healing the root problem.
I always find it interesting that as a culture we tend to solely trust in Western Medicine, unless we have some education on Eastern Medicine that offers us a new point of view. Always good to have a few views whether you begin to practice them or not. We tend to stick to what we are comfortable with which can also keep us stuck and holding us back from gaining new perspective...
Please remember, we are natural bodies that require natural remedies along with natural foods.
We are living breathing human beings that require love and attention, too!
Take the time to research what feels intuitively best for your whole well being. Remember, there is no one way to do anything; there are many! And what you choose depends on what resonates with you.
The gift we have is CHOICE… make the choice to do what’s best for your being as an individual… no judgement!
So, what do you think about starting the cold/virus season with PREVENTION, instead of waiting to medicate? How about using products to keep you immune system alive and healthy? Here are two natural remedies to try this winter.
1. Kick-Ass Immune Activator: First Line of Defense
This herbal supplement is my go-to when I need to be in the first line of defense. The minute I feel symptoms, I follow the directions below. If you have been around someone who is sick… coughing, sneezing (all that winter fun), start the Kick Ass immediately.
Check it out here:
Directions:
- Put 4-6 Pumps (2-3 droppers or 2-3 ML) in Liquid for taste every 2-4 hours as needed.
- (Yes, every 2-4 hours when you are feeling the onset, or after being with sick people!)
- Do this for 1-3 days.
The first ingredient in Kick Ass is Yerba Santa which is known as the Holy Herb!
What is Yerba Santa?
Yerba Santa is best known for its affinity to the lungs. It has been used by various professionals as a powerful decongestant and for acute conditions, such as colds, congestion and excess mucus from seasonal allergies, and for deep-seated infections such as bronchitis, by opening the lungs and loosening stuck phlegm.
Yerba Santa has been used in the past as an antibacterial, as it contains eriodictyol, a phytochemical known to be an effective antibiotic.
2. Daily Immune: Daily Protection during the “Season”
This is the everyday defense that you're looking for to keep your immunity working at its optimal. I start to take this once the “season” starts. (That would be now!) Think of it as a vitamin during cold and flu season.
Sometimes I use for one solid week and take the following week off, and continue through the season in this fashion.
Check it out here:
Directions:
- Put 2-3 droppers full in water for taste, 1-3 times per day as a tonic.
What is an Adaptogen?
Adaptogens are a class of herb that help support and nourish your body during times of stress. This can be external life stress (a hectic life can exhaust our immune system) or internal stress within the body, such as an illness. Astragalus is an adaptogen with an affinity for the immune system. It works deeply to support optimum immune health. A true tonic, Astragalus is safe and gentle enough for the whole family and can be taken long term. In fact, it works best when taken over longer periods.
Astragalus has also been found to help support healthy blood pressure as well as a healthy inflammatory response, making it wonderful support for chronic inflammatory conditions. Astragalus also helps support and nourish the heart and kidneys.
I hope this puts a new light on natural healing! And as always, let me know what you think!
If you can’t avoid it, plan for it! Happy Valentine’s Day!
