A Different Type of Resolution
/Hi! Happy Holidays!
I hope you’ve been able to ditch expectations to truly enjoy your family and friends, and are able to focus a bit more on “being” instead of “doing” this week! {Catch up on my recent posts after this, if you missed any here!}
I have been thinking about how to close 2018 and welcome 2019 in a way that is simple + helpful to you! I decided to give you my favorite New Year practice which has given me an alternative view on “Resolutions!”
It’s funny, if you think about it… we tend to think of New Years as a time to get rid of the old habits + patterns, and we set intentions to gain new habits + patterns. But as we continue to practice good self-care and self-reflection -- resulting in a sustainable healthy lifestyle -- new years resolutions do not need to become the end all be all. The truth is that most will start their New Year off with a bang. But what about the rest of the year? How do you sustain that bang?
Let me ask you… Right now, what sustains you in living a Healthy Lifestyle? What IS working in your life that you want to be sure to keep for 2019?
How about, instead of a grand resolution for 2019, you join me in this simple practice as we write down the patterns and habits that have provided us with growth and sustainability?
Then, next to, let’s write down the opposite -- what has kept us stuck? This will be a clear way to see what we need to keep and what we need to release! Below is my example, click the link below to try on your own!
Growth - Keep in 2019!
1. Drinking 1/2 my body weight in water
2. Shutting phone down by 10pm
3. Spending time with those who lift me
4. Putting writing time aside
Stuck - Leave Behind in 2018! See Ya!
1. Committing to waking early to go to gym… but then hitting snooze
2. Saying yes to others before I check in with myself
3. Over-scheduling with anyone/anytime
4. Over-committing and not “having time” to do what lights me up
Now, you go ahead… it’s such a simple tool to help you visually see what’s not be working for you moving forward… and what really needs to stick! Do you notice how instead of starting over with huge resolution(s), we can simply focus on what is already good, as well as challenge ourselves to continue eliminating the “stuck” areas? Much more sustainable!
With that… Cheers to the New Year and simple, sustainable changes. You got this!
