How Can We Measure Quality In Our Lives? + A Video from Jen
Hi There!
How do you like my vlog intro above? If you haven’t already, click my image above and watch my 50 sec intro to this blog. I’m really enjoying using this new tool to communicate with you; you’ll be seeing more of these in the future. Now that you’ve seen a taste of what this blog is about, continue reading below.
A New Focus
At the turn of 2020 I decided I did not want to make the common New Year's Resolution. Why? Because as each year turns I usually pick a resolution that is kind of not sustainable.
It may have gone like this:
Pick 3 days that I will go to the gym
Eat breakfast by 8:30am
Take time to meditate everyday
Take the dogs for a mile walk
More friend time
More spouse time
More kid time
More reading
More quiet…..OMG!
Is this making your head turn 360 degrees?? It was for me!
You might have noticed that the above resolutions are like huge broad strokes with no clear cut direction that would lead to gaining small steps of clarity and change.
So I continued to reflect on something different. I decided I would pick a word that would bring me back to feeling grounded and centered instead of the resolution of broad strokes.
That word is QUALITY!
The 5 Lifestyle qualities
To help myself measure quality in my own life, I wrote the word ‘QUALITY’ on a post-it on my computer. This reminded me that my focus was to surround myself and play with what quality means to me in the below areas of my life.
The People
What is the quality of those you choose to surround yourself with?
Tip: Those you spend the most time with have a huge influence on your moods, how you view the world and the expectations you have of yourself. When you surround yourself with positive people, you’re more likely to adopt empowering beliefs and see life as happening for you instead of to you, to paraphrase Tony Robbins.
Your Thoughts
What is the quality of your thoughts?
Tip: Our thoughts become our experiences which then become our stories we live by whether positive or negative. You choose?
Touch
What is the quality of your touch to yourself and others?
Tip: As humans, we are wired for touch. Soft and Gentle. “Skin Hunger” is when our skin literally hungers for the touch from ourselves or another human being, to feel connected, accepted and whole. The way in which we touch ourselves is a direct reflection of the way in which we touch others. (physically and emotionally)
Nutrition
What is the quality of the food you are ingesting?
Tip: You are what you eat.. Food runs the operations of our body. When we put quality food in the engine it runs properly. On the other hand, if we mindlessly ingest we become the toxins of the food.
Exercise
What is the quality of the exercise you are engaging in?
Tip: the body responds to change when we are finding joy in what we are engaging in. There is less risk of injury when we are finding pleasure in our movement.
My New Blog Series!
Now that I touched upon and gave you a taste of the 5 lifestyle qualities I will be focusing on, I have something fun for us to do together.
For the next 5 posts, I will focus on each lifestyle quality. This means that together we will have 2 full weeks with the practice of reflecting on each. I will provide questions, prompts, and conclusions.
This series isn’t just about a topic I want to share, this series is about what I am experiencing and focusing on in my life right now. We can do this together!
Stay tuned for more on the first quality focus on Tuesday, March 3, Topic 1: The quality of those you choose to surround yourself with?
XO,
